WHAT HAPPENED TO J? AT PICTURE HOUSE

Picturehouse Education has been running successful film education and cineliteracy programmes across the London Picturehouse Cinemas for many years, and are very excited to include an Anti Bullying Programme run by Film Creatives. This secondary schools’ programme aims to broaden young people’s cultural awareness, literacy skills and cineliteracy abilities, with screenings enhanced by group discussion and debate.

'What Happened to J?' was selected by the National Childrens Bureau and Anti-bullying Alliance as the Official Anti-bullying film to be represented in all schools in the UK during the 2012 Anti-bullying week. Film Creatives presents WHAT HAPPENED TO J?, an interactive anti bullying video and programme targeted at students between 11 and 16 years old. This 45 minute long programme includes a 10 minute interactive dramatic narrative film, a 30 minute quiz show / debate and talk with a cinema educator.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Screenings of WHAT HAPPENED TO J? take place at Picturehouse Cinemas London and are supplemented with pre-screening discussions led by a cineliteracy educator and filmmakers from Film Creatives. Ticket prices, booking procedures and venue information can all be found below; advance reservations are essential and the bookings are open now!

During the workshop the children get to debate within a quiz show. The debate is based on the issues and all the characters decisions in the film, especially the main character who gets bullied. But one of the main points about the debate is that the teams will determine the outcome of the film. This would be based on the decision they think is taken by the protagonist. The children will then get to watch all the outcomes and decisions the protagonist could or should have made. This will give the children more on an insight of different perspectives of the story.

You can book to attend the programme across London at the following Picturehouse cinemas and choose your own dates: Hackney Picturehouse / The Ritzy / Clapham / Greenwich Stratford East /The Gate

Discussion will be held by cinema talker and film director Nathan Theys and cinema talker Ciara Rose Brennan.
